Autumn avenue
Four rubber boots, a sandy road
Deep in the collar of our coat
The chilly storm lashes our faces
The trees are yellow, red or brown
November rain is splashing down
Depressing all the people in these places
Two human beings, just the two of us
Are going easy, no need to rush
No silly questions like: did all our dreams come true
Just walking in an autumn avenue
Just walking with you
We had our time of cakes and beer
And yet the salty taste of tears
Has passed along our hearts and faces
But all the troubles of our start
Did not exasperate our heart
It left no angry traces
Two human beings, just the two of us
Are going easy, no need to rush
No silly questions like: did all our dreams come true
Just walking in an autumn avenue
Just walking with you
No politics, no fighting swords
A silent contact without words
The years, perhaps, have marked our faces
Today the children are full grown
Are happy living on their own
In delicate unbalanced places
Just as we started: again the two of us
Are going easy, no need to rush
No silly questions like did all our dreams come true
Just walking in an autumn avenue
Just walking with you
